Non Toxic Head Lice Treatment

Traditional head lice treatment generally means a visit to your GP or pharmacist, purchasing a toxic chemical killer and applying this noxious substance to your cherished child’s head. With unknown consequences to the absorbed toxins.

Frequently, the lice remain.

Great. Now you’ve wasted your time, wasted your money, increased your child’s load of toxins and you’re back where you started.

Other kids at the school, don’t seem to be getting very much further either. So, of course, they all re-infect each other. It seems an endless cycle.

How can you effectively deal with your child’s problem without using a harsh chemical? Is it even possible?

The homeopathic medicine Staphysagria is a great and effective way to eliminate lice. Naturally. Without side effects. Without increasing their toxic load.

The medicine is taken orally (in the mouth). This alters your child’s skin, to become unattractive to head lice. This means they leave in their droves. It also means that your child will not be re-infected by contact with other children who are still affected.

Depending on the potency (strength) of the medicine, which is indicated by the number which follows the name, several doses will be needed. Instructions will be on the bottle, but as a general guide, dose once or two a day for about a week.

One or two repetitions may be necessary at subsequent times, but that should be the end of your worries. At least for this condition.

Head lice treatment using homeopathic medicines is safe, non toxic and effective. Whilst Staphysagria is the most common medicine for effectively dealing with head lice, it isn’t the only one.

Staphysagria and Animals

Staphysagria is far more than simply a great medicine for head lice. At the core of those needing Staphysagria is an inability to express their anger or their frustration. They have learned to swallow their anger and tend to present a sweet nature.

The anger is often so deeply buried, they themselves feel they never get angry.

It is normally considered necessary to sterilise domestic animals. I currently, don’t have any other alternative, so I am in this camp myself. But the animal is rarely consulted. And often, they don’t want to go through this operation, especially the females.

A deep resentment can start, that is swallowed and comes out as a skin affection. One of my cats had a troubling eczema which didn’t seem to be responding to any homeopathic remedy. Finally, I considered the possibility of his resentment of being de-sexed. He was very sweet and loving.

I gave him only two doses of Staphysagria 6c (this potency works better for skin conditions, than the higher potencies).

Within a day, his eczema had gone and never returned.

Truth, Morals and the Mighty Dollar

Last week, someone brought their dog to see me. As always, I ask what the diet is, as a bad diet causes so many health problems.

In passing, she told me that one of her neighbours is a vet. He told her, in private, never to feed her animals the dried pet food.

Yet, he is one of a group practice of vets who sell dried pet food, stacked from floor to ceiling.

I asked her what she thought of the moral of that statement and she seemed to be very understanding - siting family support and school fees as the reason.

I wasn’t understanding at all. I would rather live in a gutter than not live by my principles. My view is that if I don’t practice what I preach, I have no business preaching.

Hopefully, I don’t come across as preaching...

Chronic Fatigue That Developed After the Flu

There are as many reasons for chronic fatigue as there are people suffering from it. How it started in you is unique to you. It may have started after you recovered from an acute disease. It may have started after a medical procedure, such as an operation or a vaccination. It may have started after you suffered a bad shock, after an accident or after a fright.

One of the most common scenarios for chronic fatigue is after you have recovered from a bad dose of a virus, particularly the flu. It is reckoned that over half chronic fatigue sufferers come from this.

It’s bad enough that you had a bad dose of the flu, without complications afterwards. Especially complications that seem to drag on and on.

You can be so debilitated that you have to give up hobbies and pastimes or even work. Your social and family life suffers as a result. Your partner may not be very sympathetic, thinking you’re putting it on to get those extra hours in bed.

You miss out on your children’s activities because you have no energy either to take an interest in them or to muster up the energy to take them out.

The good news is that there is highly effective and totally natural help at hand.

In the form of homeopathic remedies.

Which you can buy over the counter inexpensively and treat yourself.

The homeopathic remedy Gelsemium is a great candidate for resolving your chronic fatigue if it started after a bad dose of the flu. But your symptoms do have to match those of the remedy to affect a healing.

So lets look at some of the most important keynote symptoms you might have or had during the flu for Gelsemium to work for you.

  • never well since the flu or flu vaccination
  • a great heaviness, even your head, eyelids and/or tongue feel heavy
  • trembling of your arms or legs especially after slight exertion
  • chills down your back or heat alternating with chills
  • you have no desire to drink at all
  • headache which is better after you have urinated
  • dizziness
  • dullness

For any homeopathic remedy to work, you only need three keynote symptoms. Bearing in mind you already have one, the first one, you only have to pick out another two.

Another symptom you probably have is the heaviness or dullness so typical in chronic fatigue.

If you find you’re also dizzy or thirstless, there’s your third keynote symptom.

You can buy some common homeopathic remedies from health shops, homeopaths and homeopathic pharmacies.

For home prescribing, you are limited to the potency (or strength) of the remedies you can purchase. So you should only be able to purchase low potencies, such as a 6c or a 30c. 30c is more powerful than 6c.

Directions will be on the bottle, so follow them. As a general rule, take the 6c twice a day or the 30c once every day or every other day.

Within about a week, you should be noticing some change, if only small. The changes may be subtle, but you should be noticing that you have a bit more energy. If this is the case, carry on. Stop when you have reached your old level of energy.

However, if you don’t see any changes after about a week to 10 days, then you probably didn’t get the symptoms right and Gelsemium is not for you. In which case you should discontinue with the remedy. It won’t help every case of chronic fatigue that developed after a virus. But it will help many.

Touch is the first tool we turn to when confronting pain. We react similarly to a stubbed toe and a broken heart, tenderly grasping the affected area. This need to apply physical contact is part of the innate healing instinct present within each of us.

And as the rejuvenating healing energy passes through you, it can awaken a profound compassion within you that helps you better understand the interactions between the spiritual, physical, and mental selves.

What Has Bleeding, Asthma and Nausea in Common?

Many women suffer badly from heavy periods, from bleeding in between periods or from constant bleeding. Often they are lead to believe that their only solution is a hysterectomy.

Of course, this isn’t the case. There are always other choices.

In homeopathy, there are hundreds of different medicines which can totally resolve this unenviable condition.

The medicine Ipecacuanha, or Ipecac, has many uses, but one of the keynotes for it, is a uterine haemorrhage which starts suddenly with bright red, uncoagulated blood, which comes in gushes.

So this can be a ‘normal’ period, a bleeding between periods, a constant period. Or even a threatened miscarriage.

Normally for this medicine to work, it needs to be accompanied by nausea. And not just any nausea. The nausea can be constant, incapacitating, and severe. And you get no relief from vomiting. This is unusual as most people at least get a short respite after vomiting.

You may also have a sensation that your stomach is hanging loose inside. A nice, quirky symptom.

Losing this amount of blood and having constant and severe nausea is likely to lead to fainting. Possibly dehydration and anaemia too.

Any excessive bleeding can respond well to this medicine, not just uterine bleeding. An ingestion of rat poison will cause internal bleeding. And nausea typically accompanies that.

Ipec has probably saved as many women from the knife as it has animals that have been poisoned.

Is there any other modality as diverse as homeopathy?

And we’re not done yet.

Migraine headaches that are accompanied by severe nausea and vomiting can be totally resolved by Ipecac. As long as the vomiting brings no relief.

Generally, those who do well on Ipecac have no thirst during the acute condition.

So far, Ipecac has shown to be pretty useful for bleeding and stomach conditions from a variety of causes. It’s also excellent for the resolution of asthmatic bronchitis and coughs. So it has a respiratory element, too.

Generally a lot of mucus can be brought up. The rattling cough shows there’s mucus there. And it’s not stubborn mucus.

So to recap, the strong keynotes of Ipecac are:


  • constant nausea unrelieved by vomiting
  • constant nausea which is incapacitating,
  • sensation that your stomach is hanging loose with the nausea
  • haemorrhages (especially uterine, but not exclusively) which gushes suddenly in bright red, uncoagulated blood, accompanied by nausea
  • internal bleeding from ingesting rat poison
  • migraine headaches with severe nausea and vomiting which is affords no relief
  • asthmatic bronchitis especially in children
  • rattling coughs which come on in humid weather
  • a marked thirstlessness, in fact the mere thought of drinking promotes gagging

You can be forgiven for feeling a bit overwhelmed by the diversity and range this medicine has. But it’s a mighty useful one, and should be in everyone’s first aid kit.

Getting Back to Wellness - Seven Quick Fixes To Feel Better

The signals our bodies use to tell us we need to cleanse ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally are multifaceted and often mirror symptoms we associate with illness. If we heed these signs, we not only feel better quickly but also stave off poor health before it can start. These quick fixes for common ailments can get you started.

1. Applying pressure to the acupressure point between the thumb and forefinger can release blockages causing pain, tension, and fatigue. You can relieve a headache naturally by squeezing for 20 seconds and releasing for 10 seconds, without letting go, four times.

4. The foods you eat can have a profound impact on your outlook and mood. Eating a small yet satisfying meal rich in complex carbohydrates can lift your spirit and help you let go of feelings of anger, irritability, and depression.

5. Anxiety and fear dissipate quickly when countered with conscious breathing because concentrating on the breath enables you to refocus your attention inward. You can ground yourself and regain your usual calm by taking a series of deep belly breaths as you visualise your feet growing roots that stretch miles down into the earth.

6. Though tuning out can seem counterproductive, a few minutes spent lost in daydreams or listening to soothing music can help you see your circumstances from a new angle when you feel frustrated.

7. If you feel ill health coming on, brew a wellness elixir. Simmer three sliced lemons, one teaspoon freshly grated ginger, one clove freshly minced garlic, and one quarter teaspoon cayenne pepper in five cups water until the lemons are soft and pale. Strain a portion into a mug and add honey by tablespoons until you can tolerate the taste. Drinking this potent mixture of antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal ingredients three times each day can ensure your symptoms never progress into a full-blown illness.

Dealing With Your Ailments From Festivities

As we approach the silly season in the western world, I’d like to talk about three homeopathic medicines which may help you through the festivities in a more holistic way.

I’m assuming here that you will be using the 30c potency, the most common in home prescribing kits. If you have a 6c only, more frequent doses will be required.

‘Dose as required’ means that after the initial dosing to see if it’s the correct medicine for you, you only redose when the symptoms return or plateau.

First, the medicine Nux vomica is par excellence for preventing and for curing hangovers from too much alcohol. Hangovers show you that your liver is having a tough time. The typical symptoms of a hangover are:


  • headache which is worse for noise and light
  • irritable
  • very cold, better for warmth
  • wants to be quiet and dark

If you take a couple of doses prior to drinking, you are much less likely to have a bad hangover. Then when you return home, drink some water. Then put a couple of pillules in a glass of water and sip this continuously until you fall asleep.

You probably won’t need any more doses in the morning, unless it was a bad binge. Dose as required.

I’m not a big drinker, so can easily get a headache from a bit too much wine. I recently had lunch with a friend at a winery. Of course, we had to sample what was on offer. I think I had a few more samples than was good for me, as I only had a glass and a half with lunch. But I did need some Nux vomica later in the afternoon, for a headache that was developing.

A couple of doses and it disappeared.

Nux vomica works for many more problems than too much alcohol. It’s a great liver cleanser, especially when a lot of drugs have been taken. It can help a well indicated homeopathic medicine to work.

Next, the medicine Carbo veg is the best way to prevent problems from over eating. Symptoms may include:


  • great distension of abdomen from gas causing discomfort or pain
  • passing the gas brings relief (burping or flatus)
  • craves fizzy drinks to encourage burping
  • indigestion from over eating
  • difficulty breathing after eating too much
  • must loosen clothes
  • can faint in a stuffy room - craves fresh or moving air

Some people don’t need to eat much more than their normal amount to  get digestive problems. Others can eat an enormous amount before they suffer.

Just remember the key for Carbo veg is the relief gained by passing the gas.

The third medicine is Pulsatilla. This medicine has problems digesting fat, which they crave. It’s odd that people often crave the things they can least tolerate. Maybe it’s showing us which medicine they need. The strong digestive keynotes of Pulsatilla are:


  • desires or averse to fatty foods
  • indigestion with spasms
  • thirstless
  • craves fresh air
  • hot, better for cold

Both Carbo veg and Pulsatilla craves fresh air and have bloating with an intolerance to fat. The biggest difference is that Pulsatilla is worse for heat, whereas Carbo veg is cold, but averse to being covered. And Pulsatilla doesn’t have the burping to relieve the discomfort.

If you’re throwing a party, these three medicines may well stand you in good stead.

There is no difference in treating animals and people when using homeopathy. Apart from the fact that you can get subjective symptoms from people, but rely only on objective symptoms from animals, there is no difference. Because of this, many people tend to portray their feelings and fears onto their animals.

When looking at your animal’s symptoms, try to be objective, taking only the signs. Don’t try to interpret what they means. For instance, if your dog is bloated, just use the symptom bloating - he may need Carbo veg. Don’t try to hypothesise what it means.

If your cat is swearing and seems irritable after a trip to the vet, maybe she needs Nux vomica.

So the above medicines can be as useful on your animals as they are for you. Hopefully you won’t need to use Nux vomica for the the same reason, as you might after a party, but it is a great medicine for a struggling liver with the same symptoms.

Good health is all about your immune system. If that’s in good order, then you will be able to resist any health disorder, or have only a mild form of whatever is around and be able to bounce baxk from this quickly and easily.

If this seems to be a long way from where you are, then you can rely on the fact that your immunity is low.

We have arrived in an age where we think that every condition must IMMEDIATELY be dealt with medically. But the body, even with a slightly compromised immune system, can handle many things considered impossible. All it needs is time and some peace and quiet.

Let me give you a couple of examples.

War Casualties Fare Better Without Medical Attention
A film (sorry I don’t know the name) has been made about war casualty experiences. Apparently casualties were classed by the medicos into 'saveable' and 'unsaveable'. The 'unsaveable' patients were bandaged and put to one side, while the 'saveable' patients underwent all sorts of surgical procedures.

Now for the interesting bit. The 'unsaveable' patients fared better - the resting-time enabled the body to set about the business of repairing itself, without exposing it to further shock that it wasn't able to handle (such as medication or surgery).

Mangled Bones Heal Themselves
A child in Russia had a badly mangled ankle and the Russian doctors had loosely wired the mess of bones together. The mother was instructed to screw the bones a little more closely together each day. She wound the screws the wrong way by mistake and the bones were separated a little further apart each day. The result was that the bones healed perfectly.

The Russians now use this 'mistake' as standard procedure.


Some people regard their health as good if they don’t get any health problems. But that’s not necessarily the case. If your immune system is so low, you couldn’t survive a challenge, then you won’t get it.

The reason for disease and physical ailments is not properly understood in mainstream circles. It has a role to play. A mild disease can prevent a more serious one. For example, if people get colds, then they are more likely to be resistant the flu. There’s a natural order, a purpose in the natural ecology.

This bears out the homeopathic philosophy of The Law of Similars.

Homeopathy works by improving your immune system. A bit like good nutrition and good practices. But it acts much deeper. It can go much further. It can undo those blockages that prevent your immune systems from working efficiently.

Blockages that were set up in childhood or resulted from a fright, a shock, a vaccine, an accident, to name just a few.

So every single homoeopatic medicine which works for you is working by improving your immune system.

I suggest to you, that you try to look upon your health challenges as just that, a challenge to improve your health overall, not just look for a quick fix. Here are a few suggestions:


  • Don’t be too hasty to get it sorted. Instead allow your body some space and time to heal itself. Get help if it goes for a while with no sign of improvement.
  • Blame your nutrition for ailments that don’t have an obvious cause (see below).
  • Use homeopathy to treat your ailments as this is supportive of what your body it trying to do. See a professional homeopath and/or treat yourself, whichever suits you. Expect life changing results over time.
  • Don’t give up. Don’t fall for what others are doing, if it doesn’t resonate with you. Don’t buckle under the peer pressure of conforming, if it’s not you. Follow what you believe. If you’re different, it makes others uncomfortable, so they want to convert you. Just accept that.

Set your own example, then apply it to your animals.

Wisdom in Food Choice

I came across this wisdom some time ago. The creator was Michael Pollan. My favourites were:


  • Don’t eat anything that took more energy to ship than to grow.
  • If you are not hungry enough to eat an apple, then you’re not hungry.
  • Eat foods in inverse proportion to how much its lobby spends to push it.
  • It’s better to pay the grocer than the doctor.
  • You may not leave the table until you finish your fruit.
  • Never eat something that is pretending to be something else (artificial sweeteners, margarine, etc.)
  • Make and take your own lunch to work.
  • One of my top rules for eating comes from economics. The law of diminishing marginal utility reminds me that each additional bite is generally less satisfying than the previous bite. This helps me slow down, savour the first bites, stop eating sooner.
  • Don’t eat anything you aren’t willing to kill yourself.
  • When drinking tea, just drink tea. I find this Zen teaching useful, given my inclination toward information absorption in the morning, when I’m also trying to eat breakfast, get the dog out, start the fire and organise my day.

Chronic Fatigue Can Cause Addison's Disease

Chronic fatigue can develop after a particularly stressful time. This takes a huge toll on your body. If you’re not very healthy to start with, and you don’t address the exhaustion, you can slip into Addison’s Disease.

One of the results of chronic fatigue is your adrenal glands stop working, or work in overdrive. Your adrenal glands are situated on your kidneys and are responsible for a host of healthy bodily functions, including your hormones.

So although it’s a good idea to see your preferred health professional, to get expert advice on how to start treating your chronic fatigue, there are quite a few things you can do yourself.

Seven Ways to Avoid the Flu

The symptoms of flu, or influenza, that sets it apart from an ordinary cold are fever and body aches. You can also have the normal cold symptoms of discharge, headaches, cough, and sore throat as these can relate to any upper respiratory tract problem. You also might have gastrointestinal problems.

Most people suffer from the occasional cold during autumn, winter or spring. And this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Discharges can be a toxic clearing, so should never be suppressed.

However, most people would prefer to avoid the debilitating types of flu. Here are seven ways that you can start now, to remain healthy next season.

  1. Make sure you eat well. This means lots of fresh fruit and vegetables that should make up at least 50% of your diet. Raw is best. Eat lots of green, leafy vegetables. Avoid or limit processed food (white sugar, artificial sweeteners, white flour, white rice). Limit dairy and meat.
  2. Get plenty of sun. These days, the sun has an unfounded bad reputation. If you’re not getting enough sun, it’s likely you’ll never be well. How much is enough sun? That depends on you, your location and the season. But I suggest one hour is the minimum daily exposure (not necessarily in the middle of the summer, in the middle of the day).
  3. Make sure you keep your liquids up. Drink when you’re thirsty. Avoid or limit soft drinks.
  4. Adequate rest is essential to keeping your body healthy. If you are burning the candle at both ends, don’t expect to avoid any illness.
  5. Taking a whole food (as opposed to the common synthetic) supplement can be hugely beneficial in topping up any nutritional deficiencies that may be caused either by your diet or by the way food is produced. Blue green algae are the best whole food supplements.
  6. Be a happy, optimistic person. If you’re not that sort of person, work on it, or get professional help. Optimistic people are much healthier than pessimistic ones.

It’s worth mentioning that most companies are well aware that putting ‘natural’, ‘all natural’, ‘all natural ingredients’ on their packets of highly processed food is quite legal, even though misguiding. They are well aware of the pull the word ‘natural’ has, as people strive for better health.

So you need to be able to decipher what is genuine and what isn’t.

Instead of looking at the pretty packet cover and convincing words, ask yourself, how far removed from the original food growing, are the contents of this packet?

Check out the ingredients.

For instance, a packet of food may list a lot of E numbers (normally synthetic colours, preservatives,) which is best to avoid. Or it may list the isolated nutrients it has added, such as calcium, selenium, etc. This is also best to avoid as synthetic nutrients aren’t absorbed easily, so you’re buying expnsive urine.

Some packets will list just the food in the ingredients. Although this doesn’t tell you if the food has been heat treated, it does ensure you know what went into it.

For instance a packet of dried apricots is likely to contain sulphur dioxide - a preservative that can have a serious impact on some people.

An all natural packet of dried apricots will only contain apricots. Nothing else.

Another example is a multi vitamin or mineral supplement. Check the ingredients. If they list minerals or vitamins, chances are this has come out of a laboratory. In my opinion, that’s where they should be returned. If the ingredients list plants, then that is a nutritious supplement, one you can easily digest and utilise as you evolved to gain your nutrients from plants.

Always look deeper, always take a peep behind the scenes. Don’t trust anyone. Go by how you feel about something, not what you’re told. And when you do your research, don’t be put off by the negative comments. Nobody agrees with everything. Instead look at the content of the positive comments. Is it purely a sales pitch? Or is there some quality information available that doesn’t benefit the author?

The rewards of an all natural lifestype can be enormous and highly satisfying. Don’t be put off by the trials and tribulations along the way. The goal is worth the effort.

Treat Flu at Home

For most people, flu comes a few times in your life. You go to bed for a few days, sleep if off and you’re back at work. It’s inconvenient. But if you have reasonable health, it’s not going to be serious.

If you can treat flu at home, this time off becomes shorter. And it’s so much nicer staying at home, in the comfort of your own bed, with your loved ones looking after you.

To treat your own flu, you probably need a bit of help. Obviously, if it’s serious you need professional help.

But if you just feel run down, have a bit of a fever and body aches, chances are that bed rest and a bit of help is all you’ll need to affect a complete recovery.

Swine Flu Compulsory Vaccination

The evidence seems to be that the swine flu is little more than an ordinary flu, and reported deaths seem to have been exaggerated, as they were complicated with more serious ailments.

And yet the popular mass seem to have gone into a mad scramble to have an untested vaccine and one which is reported as causing serious health problems, such as Guillian Barre Syndrome.

My feelings are that the universe delivers on what the majority want. I don’t mean that people are asking for bad health. I mean that they are so out of touch with themselves that they don’t understand, or even know about the law of attraction.

As I understand this law, it means that if you constantly say to yourself “I can’t do this”, or “I’m a bad person” or similar, the universe says “OK, if that’s what you want, I’ll make sure you get it.”

Likewise if you think that you can do something, even though you have no idea how you’ll get there, the universe seems to deliver.

The masses have given over their power to doctors. They don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions. They want to keep their less than healthy eating habits and their negative feelings about other people, without realising that ‘medical science’ can’t deliver a pill or a vaccine to take away their ills.

The only way their ills can go is if they take responsibility for their own health. Of their own life.

Natural Vitamin C Supplement

Today, the most common health supplements you can buy are man-made, ie in an isolated and synthetic form. They are a far cry from natural vitamins and nutrients.

Nature intended you to obtain all your nutrients from a complex and nutritious substance called food. Each food contains the necessary nutrients in balance to complement one another and so allow for its complete and easy absorption.

There is no such thing as an isolated nutrient in nature.

So when you take a synthetic nutrient, be aware that it in isolation.

This is also called fractionated supplementation.

When your body tries to digest this isolated nutrient, it searches around for the other nutrients that should accompany it. When it finds there aren’t any, then it will rob these nutrients from your body in order to attempt to absorb this isolated nutrient, so creating a deficiency.

With synthetic vitamin C, you can see that this is not absorbed, by the colour of your urine. Your urine comes out a very strong yellow. This indicates that it wasn’t absorbed. And also causes a strain on your kidneys.

But that’s not all.

The synthetic vitamin C (calcium ascorbate, sodium ascorbate and ascorbate acid), can cause hardening or thickening of the arteries, when taken in large doses, according to a study done at the University of California.

One researcher observed that "when you extract one component of food and give it at very high levels, you just don't know what you are doing to the system, and it may be adverse."

Other researchers were quick to add that the research shows the uncertainties of picking out a single vitamin among the plethora of nutrients in a healthy diet.

This is in total contradiction to all the claims made by the synthetic vitamin C manufacturers. They state that their vitamins will never cause harm and are always beneficial.

Natural vitamin C will never cause harm and is highly beneficial. Sadly, this is not the case with isolated and synthetic vitamin C.

Apart from the possibility of hardening of your arteries, high doses of ascorbic acid can cause copper deficiencies. Since copper is essential to keep your blood vessels healthy, amongst other functions, you are trading one ‘benefit’ for the loss of another.

An added problem is that synthetic vitamin C also causes body acidity. Your body should be slightly alkaline. While you body pH is alkaline, disease cannot develop. As soon as your body becomes acid, all manner of health problems can result.

Natural vitamin C is a vitally important vitamin to retain good health. Claims have indicated that it can be helpful in preventing anything from colds to cancer. But it seems to be prudent to avoid the isolated and synthetic form, and to either obtain all your needs from your healthy diet or from an all food based natural vitamin C supplement.

There are some foods which contain a rich source of natural vitamin C. These make the best supplements, as all foods will lose some of their nutrients when made into supplements, by the processing.

Some of the best plants which survive the processing are acerola cherry and camu camu.

If you buy any other form, always check the ingredients, as while the label may boldly claim to be Acerola cherry vitamin C, it may only be one ingredient, with the cheaper synthetic forming the bulk.

Super Supplements for Super Health

First, I’d like to discuss whether you really need a health supplement, let alone any of the range of super supplements.

Many people are too busy to eat well. A frozen packet from the supermarket, thrown into the microwave may be their staple diet. A regular visit or three, to a fast food outlet may complete the week. Even eating out may not go further than the local fish and chip shop.

Can anyone, in their wildest dreams, consider this a healthy diet? What are the problems?

  • there are no fresh ingredients, everything is cooked, sometimes more than once
  • microwaves are not a healthy way to cook food
  • fast food has too high fat content
  • an excess of cooking in fat causes major health problems
  • fast food has too high animal protein content
  • fast food normally contains health damaging preservatives
  • there is no balance

Even if you don’t fall into the above category, lets have a look at what is considered a healthy diet.

Typically, if you eat a lot of vegetables and fruit, you probably consider your diet is healthy. But did you know that cooking destroys many nutrients and alters others? For instance broccoli has an amazing array of health promoting nutrients, most of which are destroyed in cooking. Even in light steaming.

Most people think they need a lot of animal protein, so tend to consume it more than once a day. But did you know that animal protein makes your body acidic? You should be slightly alkaline for optimum health.

Many health problems, including cancer, cannot live in an alkaline environment, but thrive in an acid one.

Fruit is often cooked, again destroying vital nutrients. But sugar is frequently added too. Sugar is a processed food, so is hard to digest. It also contributes to your overall acidity.

So lets suppose you’re eating a diet which is high in raw fruit and vegetables. You’re feeling pretty righteous about it. But is it adequate?

It might be if it wasn’t for two important factors.

One is that most food grown today is grown for good looks rather than nutritional content. There is a saying that the west has never been so well fed, but so under nourished.

On the other hand, certified organic food is grown for the high nutrient content, and looks come second. So eating certified organic is definitely more healthy, but is it enough?

The second factor is your modern lifestyle. Most of us are under stress from family and/or work, live in a polluted environment and don’t relax anything like as often as you should.

So even if you are eating a lot of raw, organic produce, you’ll still need a health supplement.

Having established that practically everyone needs a health supplement, which one is the best value for money and the most effective?

Most of the health supplements on the market are made in a laboratory. In other words, they are synthesised. That’s why you can purchase isolated nutrients, such as selenium or iron or calcium. You body can’t utilise synthetic nutrients. At best, they are expensive poo. At worst, the nutrients can hang around in your body to cause problems later.

For example, synthetic calcium supplements are thought to be one cause of kidney stones.

Another common source of a health supplement is minerals. OK, so naturally occurring minerals are a bit better than synthesised nutrients, but again, your body doesn’t know what to do with them.

Your body is complex. Nutrients co-depend on each other. For instance, calcium needs phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin A and D to be utilised efficiently by your body. Plus a myriad of trace elements and other nutrients.

Too much iron depletes your copper levels. So what’s too much?

You evolved to gain all your nutritional health requirements from food, so the best way is to duplicate this. This is naturally balanced and easily digested and utilised.

As we have already discussed, even certified organic food may not be sufficient to provide for all your health requirements in this stressful and frantically busy world you live in.

Case of Fever

I was recently out shopping and, out of the blue, felt quite weary. Within half an hour, I was very tired, feverish, with a slight headache. The suddenness of this onset was most definitely a call for a plant based remedy.

As soon as I got home, I took some Aconite 30c. Within a coupe of doses, the shivering had passed, so I kept going with a dose every 10 to 15 minutes, for quite a few doses. I still felt a bit weak, but was able to do my evening jobs, albeit a bit slowly.

I should have used a higher potency, from the suddenness of the onset, but I wanted to be able to show you what you can do with a simple home prescribing kit.

I had an early night and slept well, but woke up with a sore throat and still feeling a bit out of sorts, but the fever and headache had gone.

I took another dose of Aconite, but this had now done its job and did nothing.

The next remedy I decided to take was Oscillo (also known as Anas barb). This was because I didn’t have any real symptoms. A mildly sore throat is too vague. So is feeling out of sorts. But it seemed flu based, bearing in mind the fever the previous day. Oscillo will work very well at the start of a cold or flu, but generally not well once it has established, unless you have its unique symptoms.

I started to feel a bit better, so didn’t take another dose. It took about an hour before I felt normal again. And I didn’t need a second dose.

Case of Nerve Injury

A girl had fallen from her pony and landed on her hand, with the little finger taking the brunt of the fall. Her mother had given her a lot of Arnica, to good effect for the pain. But the following day, there was a shooting pain.

Fingers are rich in nerves and a shooting pain normally indicates nerve damage.

Hypericum was the remedy for this. And this sorted it out.

Case of Food Poisoning

A call came in from a patient who was violently ill, with vomiting. This was compounded by period pains and also a recent fall from a horse.

I wasn’t at the clinic at the time of her call, so she couldn’t come and see me. And she didn’t have a home prescribing kit, so I couldn’t suggest a remedy.

Really the only thing she could do was to go home and rest, and, dare I say it, take an analgaesic.

I rang a couple of hours later and she was fine.

She had worked out by then that it was probably food poisoning.

When you get a violent reaction, as she had, it means you are very healthy. I know it sounds upside down. But only a healthy body can react violently. Anything invading your body which is not in your best interests, your body will do everything it can to rid itself of it.

Had she been unhealthy, her body’s reaction would have been much more gentle, but it would have smouldered for days.

A violent reaction lasting only hours is a sure sign of someone who is generally healthy.

Had she had a home prescribing kit, she could have dealt with the fall days earlier, and then with the food poisoning, lessening the violence.

Case of Foreign Object in the Eye

A call came about confirming a remedy for a dog with a piece of stick deeply buried in his eye. His person knew she was in for expensive surgery to have it removed, when she suddenly remembered Silica. She raced over to her friend, who she knew had it. The dog practically tore her arm off for the first dose. Subsequent doses were all eagerly taken.

By the following day, the object had fallen out. There was a bit of cloudiness where it had been, but over time, this has diminished greatly.

Case of Back Pain

A patient had worked out that she needed Rhus tox for her back pain and stiffness. This worked well for a few days, with the doses getting wider apart, as she needed them.

Then the symptoms changed. She still had the pain, but now if was painful to move. I suggested Bryonia, not only for the pain which is worse for movement, but also because it works very well with Rhus tox, which had been used successfully.

This resolved the back problem.

Using Some Common Home Remedies Could Save Your Life!

I love those self help books which tell you how to easily remove stains and odours, be more efficient and various other useful tips, just by using some common sense and normal household cleaning products, such as vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.

Choosing A Natural Health Magazine Which is Unbiased

Natural health magazines abound, often giving you conflicting advice. Who should you believe?

I believe any good natural health magazine, like any good magazine, shouldn’t so much give you advice, rather they should give unbiased important pros and cons and leave you to work out the best solution for you.

After all you are unique. What is helpful to the magazine editor may be harmful to you. Only you can decide.

Being unbiased is hugely important. We’re all reading in the news how doctors have been paid to create unsubstantiated ‘scientific’ papers supporting some drug or other.

Natural health magazine editors are people too. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. If the editor only advocates items they receive a royalty form, they aren’t unbiased.

Sure, we all need to make our daily crust, but it’s best to be open about what we profit from.

A good natural health magazine should look at all aspects of health, not just focus on physical ailments. For example, diet is critical to good health.

I recently read of six people, all suffering with type 2 diabetes, on insulin and all obese. Within one week of a change of diet, most were off their insulin. Within one month, they all were.

Isn’t that awesome?

I find it extraordinary that doctors receive no nutritional training whatsoever.

Yet I doubt there is a natural health therapist who doesn’t understand the importance of diet.

Natural health covers every aspect of who you are. You aren’t just your body. You aren’t just your mind. You are a unique and complex unit. Your feelings and emotions are as important (actually more so) as your thoughts and creations.

So any natural health magazine worth its salt will cover aspects of your emotional health, as well as your physical health. When you ignore your emotional health, sooner or later you’ll suffer physical ill health.

Everyone knows that stress causes anxiety and that anxiety causes higher blood pressure and faster heart rate. While that’s fine for a short period, if you continually have these ‘anxiety attacks’, your physical health will deteriorate.

But you don’t have to resort to drugs. There are many effective, natural alternatives. And homeopathy can actually get to the cause of why you are suffering these attacks in the first place.

And fix it.

And lastly, your magazine should have a readers question area. Whilst the answer may not be specifically helpful for your ailment, they should be able to point you in the right direction. They should know what areas each natural health modality excels in and which has limited ability.

For example, you wouldn’t go to a masseuse if you had incontinence. And you probably wouldn’t go to a chiropractor if you had a torn ligament. It’s doubtful you’d see an acupuncturist if you had been abused as a child.

Yet all these health issues can be resolved using homeopathy.

Heal an Irritable Partner With Manflu?

I slipped and fell heavily recently. As I had taken Arnica immediately afterwards, I didn’t expect anything to develop, so was surprised that the following day I did have a chest pain, at the point that took the impact of landing. It didn’t seem to be a muscle pain and I had no weakness, so ruled out tendon damage (who needs X-rays, when you’re in tune with your body?)

So I came to the conclusion that I had bruised a rib. Symphytum (the top broken bone remedy) did nothing. A few doses of Bryonia and the pain vanished.

This week, we’re looking at another flu remedy, but before we do that, I want to tell you about it’s non-flu healing properties, just in case you are getting heartily fed up with the swine flu, the bird flu, any flu.

A recent UK visitor, who came to conduct a seminar here, was telling me a time when he felt very ill and had taken to his bed. He didn’t know what he had and felt too ill to work out his remedy.

Until...

The eureka moment came when he realised he was feeling angry that his wife had visitors. And they talked, making a noise... That’s when he took Bryonia and started to get better.

Bryonia is very easily irritated, even angry, especially at being disturbed. Bryonia wants to be left alone and quiet and above all, wants to be still. The slightest movement upsets someone needing Bryonia. Even moving the eyes, if the eyes are the problem.

Generally, those needing Bryonia have dry mucous membranes.

The worse time is around 9 pm.

If you have a pain anywhere, this is improved by pressing on it or lying on it.

It’s a very typical headache remedy, especially if the headache starts over your left eye then extends over your whole head, and it’s worse by any movement or noise. Even a cough will aggravate it.

And you have an enormous thirst for huge amounts infrequently.

Just the thirst alone sets this remedy aside from the Arsenicum album (sips) and Gelsemium (thirstless) discussed in the last two weeks.

Bryonia is also the top remedy for arthritis and rheumatism which have pains from the slightest movement.

And it’s one of the top remedies for a broken bone, bruised bone, damaged periosteum (lining of the bone) - you can see why, as any movement exacerbates the pain of a broken bone.

Bryonia is one of the most important remedies for appendicitis.

Getting onto the respiratory symptoms, Bryonia covers just about everything - pleurisy, pneumonia, bronchitis and, of course, colds and the flu. Any movement, even breathing hurts, so you prefer to breathe in shallow breaths, or pant.

Coughing is very painful and you try to soften the pain by holding your chest. And your cough is normally dry.

The flu symptoms come with a great aching which is worse from any movement.

For animals, the characteristic signs are a great thirst infrequently, disinclination to move and an irritability. I have prescribed Bryonia for an ageing dog on just those three keynote symptoms. It pealed years off her, bringing her youth and vigour back.

The huge thirst and disinclination to move could result in what appears to be incontinence, but really isn’t. Very common in ageing dogs.

Truly Natural Vitamin C

Most people know of the benefits of taking vitamin C, especially when it comes to colds and the flu.

But it’s not that simple. Is anything?

The vast majority of vitamin C sold today is in an isolated and synthetic form - calcium ascorbate, sodium ascorbate, ascorbic acid. Much of it can’t be used by your body. You didn’t evolve to utilise isolated or synthetic nutrients. They need to be in the complex and balanced form called food.

When your body tries to excrete the waste vitamin C, it puts an unnatural strain on your liver and kidneys.

Discover How to Recover From a Purging Type Flu

You may have read that some swine flu sufferers had vomiting and diarrhoea as well as the regular flu symptoms, so today we’re going to focus on a homeopathic remedy which is wonderful for curing colds and flu as well as vomiting and diarrhoea.

It’s pretty embarrassing having vomiting and diarrhoea at the same time, although you’re almost too ill to care. But this is a typical case of food poisoning.

The top remedy for this condition is Arsenicum album. An absolutely invaluable remedy for both you, the home prescriber and for practitioners alike.

Arsenicum album is an enormous remedy with a huge scope for many ailments. Here, we’re focussing on flus and purging.

Typically, those in need of this remedy are either very restless or completely exhausted.

The worse time period is around midnight til about 2 am.

The pains are normally burning in nature. Stomach, anus from diarrhoea, your upper lip from an acrid nasal discharge. The skin goes pink or red from the burning nature of the discharge. Animals may suffer from hair loss in this area, as well.

Those in need of this remedy can be very anxious, if not downright fearful, although this isn’t a necessary symptom in all cases and it isn’t always easy to see in animals.

There is an anxiety from being alone, with a great desire for company.

And you’re cold. You need to be covered up, but there is also a desire for fresh or open air. (Is your animal seeking the sun or the heater?)

As your stomach is upset, you can’t drink much at a time, so you tend to sip.

This remedy can either bring you back from the brink of death, or will counter any fears of death, allowing an easy slipping away. I wouldn’t be without it with animals in the household. And it’s equally helpful for people who have made up their mind to go, but remain fearful.

I want to tell you about a recent case I read about, from Homeopathy 4 Everyone

A woman was suffering from a cerebral stroke and in a coma. After a month of futile treatments, doctors declared her case as hopeless.

Luckily for her, a homeopath was brought in.

Her unique symptoms before and during the stroke were taken.

She was given a common homeopathic remedy, one which is found in all first aid kits for home prescribing, regularly. Within two days she was moving her eyes, blinking and made efforts to speak. After one week she talking, moving her head and asking for food. Within one month she walking with support. Shortly after, she recovered all of her mental functions.

Looking for a Way to Stop the Flu in its Tracks?

You can feel the start of a cold or flu coming. You know the signs, you’ve had them so often.

At this point, if you take the remedy Aconite, you’ll probably nip the whole thing in the bud. Just a few doses, whenever you feel the symptoms return over the course of a day and that will probably be it.

Be the envy of your work colleagues who fall like flies!

Aconite is made from a plant and those who do best on plant based remedies tend to get their symptoms quite quickly, over a few hours. So you might go to bed feeling fine, but wake up in the middle of the night as if you’re in the middle of a cold or flu.

Other people may take days to reach the same point (discussed in later eletters).

So if you’re in this quick onset category, I suggest you keep a bottle of Aconite handy especially in the flu season.

Aconite works on a broad spectrum of people within the first 24 or so hours. After that it’s effectiveness is more limited to the quick onset type of person.

Aconite is brilliant at effectively dealing with the first signs of allergies, too. Generally allergic attacks happen quite quickly, so you can see why this remedy will work so well.

Frequently, symptoms start in the middle of the night, as this is a weak time for Aconite sufferers.

Another weak spot is when symptoms (of any complaint) arise after a dry wind, be it hot or cold. Hot, dry winds are common in the summer where I live and it always heralds a flurry of hay fever sufferers.

I remember reading of a little boy who was suddenly taken with appendicitis in the middle of the night and was rushed to hospital where, fortunately there was a homeopathic doctor present. She remembered that there had been a cold, dry wind the day before, so gave the boy a few doses of Aconite.

Whereupon his pain disappeared and he was spared the knife, with no ill effects.

Aconite is also one of the top remedies for shock. Shock from a scary event, such as an accident, from a poisonous bite, from witnessing a shocking event, there are many ways we can experience shock. The key really here, is if we remain stuck in the shock - for instance you can’t sleep, you tremble or shake a lot, you can’t venture outside the house.

Although, in these instances you will need a much higher potency than is available in home prescribing kits, so see a professional homoeopath.

These are all signs that you haven’t been able to process the shock and homeopathy is brilliant for helping you to do just this.

Once I saw one of my cats play with a baby dugite, a poisonous snake. I didn’t interfere as I thought I could make things worse. But when she came in that evening, she was very wobbly - obviously been bitten. So I alternated her snake bite remedy with Aconite.

After a couple hours of dosing and a good night’s sleep, she was back to normal the next day.

Doesn’t that just blow you away?

Daily, I’m so thankful I found homeopathy.

Daily, I want to shout about it from the rooftops...

And the great thing is, if you didn’t manage to choose the right remedy, nothing happens. You can’t do any harm. Just nothing happens.

Discover the Top Swine Flu (Any Flu) Prevention Remedy

The swine flu fever seems to be dying down a bit, but I’m quite sure there will be another scare soon. After all, it’s good for business. Bird flu, SARS, swine flu - it all creates great sales for Big Pharma as people go into panic alert. More on this later.

This week, lets look at how to prevent flu if you regularly succumb to it. It’s worth mentioning here, that everyone has their own achilles heel. Yours may not be your respiratory system. Your weakness may lie elsewhere. So if you don’t have a history of getting colds bad enough to send you to bed, or bad bouts of flu, I suggest your weakness doesn’t lie here.

Which means its pointless taking a flu preventative.

However, if you do have a tendency to bad colds or flus, then I suggest you get a supply of a great remedy called Anas barb. For non French speakers this translates as barbery duck. This remedy has been made from the internal organs of the barbery duck.

Although homeopathic remedies contain no trace of the original substance, relying instead on its energy, vegans may not wish to take this remedy. It’s also noteworthy to know that homeopathic remedies are rarely made from the products of a dead animal, except with insects. Mostly remedies made from animals come from a discharge or their milk.

More over, the endless supply of a remedy will come from the original stock remedy. So only those original ducks are the source of this remedy.

Anas barb is the exception. It was made in France, by a group of homoeopaths who connected seasonal flu with birds.

So lets get into this remedy.

Generally it’s only available in the 200c potency. Again, an oddity in homeopathy. Which means you need to exercise a little caution here. Don’t treat it like a lower potency and happily swig away at it.

To prevent flu, the recommended dose is once a fortnight. However, as homoeopaths are very aware of individualising, I suggest you learn to work out what is the best dose for you.

To do that, you can also take it at the first sign of a cold. It generally won’t work to help a full blown cold or flu. But it will at the start.

So let’s suppose you’ve been taking the remedy once a fortnight, but you have been around people with colds or the flu and know the signs when you are affected. So you’ve been taking additional doses at these times, to good effect. You notice that you’ve actually been having a dose every week.

That may be you optimum dosage, during the cold and flu season.

Maybe you have been taking the remedy once a fortnight, and have been around people with bad colds and flu, but haven’t been affected at all. In your case, dosing every three or even four weeks, during the season, may be your optimum dose.

Play around a bit and see what suits you best. But don’t overdo it.

This remedy is also called Oscillococcinum, Oscillo for short. Why it’s called that is a bit too complicated to go into here.

If you feel a cold or flu coming on, you can take more of the remedy, as long as each dose gives you some relief. That may be every few hours. Then the relief wears off, so dose again.

Oscillo is a great flu remedy for some people. Again, we come back to the homeopathic approach to individualising people.

So it will heal flu (or any other disorder) if you have some of the following symptoms along with the normal eye and nose discharges and general low energy:

  • bursting headache
  • muscle ache
  • sensitive to the cold
  • sensitive to barometric changes in the weather
  • gastro intestinal symptoms
  • bronchial congestion, perhaps with a cough
  • paleness
  • painful ears, may be like needles

Not a remedy I recommend regular cold or flu suffers to be without.

It’s worth mentioning here that classical homoeopaths don’t adhere to the principle in preventing sickness, but to deal with it as it arises. While there is merit in this approach, we live in today’s world with it’s warped view on health and sickness. Therefore, I feel it is necessary to help prevent disease in an holistic, do-no-harm way, to those who wish it.

Homeopathic Remedies - What You Need to Know For Home Prescribing

You’re probably well aware just how wonderful, deep, thorough, gentle, powerful (I could go on) homeopathy is, but did you know that not only can you receive wonderfully effective treatment from a professional homeopath, you can also use homeopathic remedies in the comfort of your own home?

Home prescribing is, naturally, limited to the less complicated ailments. But there’s a tremendous amount you can do at home.

Lets look at what some of the common homeopathic remedies can do, those that you’ll find in most first aid or common ailment kits.

  • pain management - forget analgaesics
  • injury - achieve fast healing with no discomfort
  • fever - cure it naturally, without suppression
  • food poisoning - quickly allays the purging with no side effects
  • burns - treated quickly will ensure blisters and pain don’t develop
  • colds, flus - nip them in the bud or prevent them altogether
  • insect bites or worse - no infection can develop
  • hangovers - never have another one
  • abscess, boils, carbuncles - no need for antibiotics here
  • regular nose bleeds? - not any more!

Isn’t that an impressive list? And it’s by no means exhaustive. Imagine the satisfaction of being able to treat a painful ear in the middle of the night. No one wants to be dragged out of bed for an endless wait in hospital, only to be given a drug which may knock you out, but leaves you feeling drugged in the morning and hasn’t resolved the cause, anyway.

Homeopathic remedies only work if you have selected the right one for the job. If you have selected the wrong one, nothing happens. You can’t do yourself any harm.

Isn’t that just a fabulous concept? If you get the wrong remedy nothing happens, if you select the right remedy, the problem just melts away. It’s as if it was never there. Newbies to homeopathy can be forgiven for feeling that - did I really have that pain? - because there are no after effects.

So how do you know which remedy to select for which problem?

Well, apart from the instructions which come with every kit, there are books you can purchase. I love books and learn a lot from them. But sometimes it’s nice to have a person to chat to, or a personal view, or an anecdote to relate to.

Subscribing to a regular eletter will keep you plugged in to thinking in the way you need to. Believe me, using homeopathic remedies is not like using typical over-the-counter drugs. You do need to know a bit.

And I can guarantee you won’t always make the right choice, you won’t always be able to make a difference. But the feeling of elation when you do is worth all the waiting,

I well remember my first success story. It was when I was a homeopathic student. One of my cats became ill and stopped eating. A veterinarian diagnosed kidney failure and gave her, in effect, a death sentence.

Many people who are heavily into natural medicine, still have pain killers at the ready, just in case.

It's also mandatory for boosting immunity and protecting the body from viral and bacterial infection. But it's not invincible. When it gets damaged, it leaks enzymes into the bloodstream. How to Protect Yourself

So what can you do to avoid these harmful effects if you currently use Tylenol for pain relief? Your first instinct might be to throw your bottle of Tylenol in the trash and switch to another popular pain reliever like Aspirin or Ibuprofen.
