Up To My Armpits in Sh...

This weekend, I ‘enjoyed’ myself clearing a blockage in the septic tank. Living in a country with hot, dry summers, those of us with septic tanks get used to periodically clearing out roots that can work their way through concrete. The trees provide much needed shade, so I accept the disadvantages, along with the advantages.

I have watched plumbers clear the system and it certainly isn’t complicated. So for the past few years, I have managed to rectify this ongoing problem myself. Plumbers don’t come cheap.

I cleared the pipe from the second chamber to the leach drain, but no water poured out. The problem lay in the connection between the first and second chambers. To clear it, it involved putting my arms into the contents, the slurry as I believe it is so delicately called. Luckily, I could do this in the second chamber, the contents of which had been somewhat processed. The satisfying gush of water rewarded my efforts.

Why am I telling you about my thrilling weekend, up to my armpits in sh...? Septic tanks could be considered one of the richest sources of bacteria. Most people would consider the risk of being exposed to all this far too much. But I wasn’t in the least concerned. Granted, clearing blocked septic tanks is not one of my favourite jobs, but I wasn’t full of fear of succumbing to a bacterial infection. Why not?

It is a common misconception in today’s world that bacteria, and other pathogens, must at all cost be killed off. Every infection must be addressed with antibiotics.

But this is totally against nature’s way.

This theory was first put forward by Louis Pasteur (1822 - 1895) and it’s called the germ theory. He thought that the body was sterile and that germs come in from the outside. In fact, the body is teeming with micro organisms. It is far from sterile.

Another scientist, called Antoine Bechamp (1816 - 1908), put forward another theory. His idea was that micro-organisms, including the dreaded pathogens, are inherent in all living beings. And that it was the condition of the host (your health or your immune system) that is the primary causative factor. In other words, to prevent disease, first you have to create health.

Homeopathic treatment never targets disease, pathogens, infections or any other fragmented part of your health. Instead, it targets you and the imbalance in you that has allowed this to occur. So your immune system is strengthened. It is this which allows your body to now effectively deal with the infection, etc.

In a nutshell, a very healthy, well balanced being can shrug off any problem, be it mental, emotional or physical. This bodes well for the coming times, when all the food, the whole environment is likely to be polluted with the radioactive fallout from Japan.

Those of you who have read Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now will be familiar with what he calls your ‘pain body’. This is the unconscious part of you that wants to keep you in subservience. You create, albeit unconsciously, scenarios in your life that keep you firmly rooted in the original problem that caused this disturbance. Often this is set up in childhood - modern civilisation is not very well equipped to nurture emotionally healthy children.

On a personal level, I have experienced the seemingly effortless transformation that comes with good homeopathic treatment. The ‘pain body’ dies, leaving you puzzled why you ever worried or were affected by those experiences or people. So I can completely understand Tolle's description of having a second me, a shadow, an impersonator.

On a professional level, this is the expected, but none the less thrilling news that comes from a good prescription.

My shower drain is still blocked with a hard-to-reach root. Perhaps that’s for another exciting weekend.
